KDHE will now determine Elderly and People with Disabilities' eligibility for KanCare.

Executive Reorganization order 43 has moved the KanCare eligibility determinations for the elderly and disabled from the Department for Children and Families to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment as of January 1, 2016.

You're Invited! Health Homes Regional Meetings April 2-9, 2014

Health Homes are an innovative new model for improving health care management services for individuals who live with serious mental illness or specific chronic conditions and are eligible for Medicaid.  The Kansas Department of Health and Environment plans to implement Health Homes in Kansas beginning July 1, 2014.

You are invited to attend a regional meeting regarding the upcoming Health Homes initiative April 2-9 in locations across the State.  These meetings will give potential Health Home Partners and potential sub-contracting agencies an opportunity to learn more, get on board, and get prepared through information sharing and conversation. 

These full day meetings will be held:

  • April 2 – Hays (Fort Hays State University – Robbins Center)
  • April 3 – Dodge City (Dodge House Hotel & Convention Center)
  • April 4 – Wichita (WSU Hughes Metroplex)
  • April 7 – Chanute (Memorial Building – Alliance Room)

Summits for I/DD TCMs and Care Coordinators

The Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services – Community Services and Programs Commission has scheduled a series of summits for I/DD Targeted Case Managers and Care Coordinators from the three Managed Care Organizations. The purpose of these summits is to help Targeted Case Managers and MCO care coordinators to better understand their roles under KanCare and how they will work together to support people receiving home and community based services through the KanCare program.

KanCare Educational Activities for Intellectual and Developmental Disability HCBS Inclusion


This month, the State of Kansas will begin a series of educational meetings focused on informing stakeholders in the Intellectual and Developmental Disability Home and Community Based Service waiver. This educational tour will take place in four cities across Kansas from September 23-26.

Consumers and their families and friends, targeted case managers, and services providers are all urged to attend.

This educational tour will be dedicated to helping KanCare members and providers of long-term intellectual and developmental disability services with questions they have regarding the upcoming full inclusion into KanCare on January 1, 2014. Representatives of the three KanCare Managed Care Organization (MCOs) will be in attendance.

Amerigroup, Sunflower and UnitedHealthcare will conduct provider forums for all provider types servicing KanCare members. These forums will be open for providers to ask MCO representatives questions on operational issues. The MCOs will also provide information on operational updates impacting KanCare providers.

Post Award Forum with next KanCare Advisory Council Meeting– June 25
The State of Kansas is inviting the public to a meeting in Topeka to provide comments on the progress of the KanCare "Section 1115" demonstration project. This post-award forum has been scheduled for the first hour of the meeting, on Tuesday, June 25, at 2:00 p.m. in Memorial Hall Auditorium, at 120 SW 10th Avenue in Topeka, Kansas. The forum is being held with the next meeting of the KanCare Advisory Council. Interested individuals can learn about the progress of KanCare and how the State and three managed care companies are operating in accordance with the special terms and conditions of the "Section 1115" waiver granted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The state will draft a summary of the comments made during the forum and include the summary in the KanCare quarterly and annual reports. HCBS Provider Support Call

We host a weekly operator-assisted conference call specifically for providers of Home and Community Based Services. On this call, providers can discuss KanCare-related issues with KDADS and the three KanCare health plans. These calls are on Tuesdays from 11:00 am-12:00 pm, beginning May 14.

During this call, we welcomed consumers, providers and other stakeholders to join the phone line and ask questions about their individual needs pertaining to the transition to KanCare. Public Listening Session

The State scheduled a teleconference Listening Session from 4-5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, to discuss KanCare readiness with stakeholders.

Interested parties were invited to join the operated-assisted call. This listening session was hosted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services, and included participation from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
