Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model Grant
The TMaH project director has been in conversation with various stakeholders who have expressed interest in the grant. In addition, the project director is in the process of building out a team to support grant activities and working to create a landing page on the KanCare website.
Legislative Activities (State and Federal)
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services presented to the Robert G. (Bob) Bethell Joint Committee on Home and Community-Based Services and KanCare Oversight on July 14 and 15, 2025.
KDHE presented on a variety of topics, including the rate increase for sedation dentistry services, CHIP outreach, eligibility status updates and policy updates for prior authorization rate increases. KDHE thanks the Committee for their time and dedication.
KDHE is reviewing the implications of the federal reconciliation bill.
Website Updates
The Kansas Medicaid State Plan is live on the KanCare website. It will be maintained regularly and updated as changes occur.
In collaboration with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG), there is a centralized space on the KanCare website documenting all historical and current Summary of Changes (SOC). SOCs identify changes made to the two Medicaid policy manuals – the Medical Kansas Economic Employment Services Manual (MKEESM) and the Kansas Family Medical Assistance Manual (KFMAM).
Policy Updates
KDHE has implemented a change in the application and review policy. The change is sunsetting flexibilities Kansas Medicaid adopted during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE). Late reviews will be treated as new applications, and backdated coverage will be determined based on program eligibility. Members should continue to submit their renewals on time to mitigate potential gaps in coverage.
The Department of Health Care Finance (DHCF) team, in collaboration with external partners and advocates, have provided messaging to ensure members are receiving accurate and timely information. To learn more and review frequently asked questions, visit the Reconsideration Period Policy Update page.
