Kansas Medicaid periodically receives grant funding to carry out or enhance programs for specific needs within the state. Currently, there are two programs funded by grants: Kansas School-Based Services and Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model program.

Kansas School-Based Services

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded the KanCare program a $2.5 million grant to expand school-based services (SBS) in Kansas over the next three years. Currently in the state of Kansas, school-based services are only available to students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP) or an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).With this grant, school-based services will be expanded to include additional services such as behavioral coverage for all Medicaid-enrolled students outside of the IEP or IFSP. The grant will also support building infrastructure for the billing and monitoring process, updating the State Plan and expanding program access to schools.

Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model Program

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid selected Kansas as one of 15 states to participate in its Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model program, which includes a $17 million grant award over the next 10 years. The goal of the TMaH Model is to improve maternal and child health care for Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) members. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will utilize the grant to enhance the work occurring with Kansas Medicaid and Maternal and Child Health Programs.
